Historical Significance

Established in V.S. 1237 (approx. 1180 AD), Aharji is a significant Atishay Kshetra located in the Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh.

The entire area is dotted with ancient temples and ruins, but the crowning jewel is the main temple housing the gigantic statue. The environment is serene, situated near the beautiful Madan Sagar Sarovar, offering a perfect setting for meditation and darshan.

The Mulnayak

The primary attraction is the magnificent 21 Feet high (monolithic) statue of Lord Shantinath in the Khadgasana (standing) posture. The idol is renowned for its miraculous aura and ancient artistry, dating back to the 12th century.

Aharji is situated in the Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh. It is located about 5 km away from the Madan Sagar Sarovar (near Baldevgarh/Lalitpur road).

The main attraction is the 21-foot tall statue of Lord Shantinath (16th Tirthankara). It is a miraculous ancient idol carved from a single stone.

The inscriptions indicate that the main idol and temple complex date back to Vikram Samvat 1237 (approximately 1180 AD), making it over 800 years old.
