Privacy Policy

The Jain Religion (thejainreligion.in) is a devotional and educational portal. Most of this site can be read without giving us any personal information at all. This notice explains what we collect when you do choose to take part, why we collect it, and how you can have it removed.

1. What we collect, and why

We do not ask for, and you should never send us, your sect, caste, financial details, health information, or government identity numbers.

2. Your consent

We collect this information only when you actively give it to us by filling in a form. You are not required to join the quiz or the directory in order to read any devotional or educational content on this site. Where you have given consent, you may withdraw it at any time — see section 5.

3. Purpose limitation

We use your information only for the purpose shown in the table above. We do not sell your data, rent it, share it with advertisers, or use it to build advertising profiles. If we ever need to use your information for a new purpose, we will ask you first.

4. Who can see your information

• Jain Connect profiles are visible to other signed-in members. Your phone number is shared with another member only once a connection request has been accepted.
• Quiz results appear on the daily Anumodna list showing your name and percentage. Your phone number is never shown publicly.
• Our hosting provider stores the data on our behalf.

We may disclose information if we are legally required to do so by a competent Indian authority.

5. Your rights

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you may ask us to:

• tell you what personal data of yours we hold;
• correct anything that is wrong or out of date;
• delete your profile and quiz records entirely;
• withdraw a consent you previously gave;
• nominate someone to exercise these rights if you are unable to.

Write to privacy@thejainreligion.in from the email or phone number on your profile. We will respond within 30 days, and deletion is permanent.

6. How we protect your information

• The whole site is served over HTTPS.
• Passwords are stored only as bcrypt hashes — never in readable form, and never recoverable by us or by anyone who obtains the database.
• Sign-in attempts are rate-limited and locked out after repeated failures.
• Uploaded images are re-encoded and stored outside the public web folder.
• Backups are taken daily and stored off-site.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever affects your data, we will notify you and the Data Protection Board as the Act requires.

7. Cookies

We use one strictly necessary cookie (JAINSESSID) to keep you signed in and to protect forms against cross-site request forgery. It carries no advertising identifier. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

8. Children

Jain Connect is intended for adults. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before creating a profile or entering a phone number. If we learn that we hold a child's data without verifiable parental consent, we will delete it.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may escalate the matter to the Data Protection Board of India.

10. Changes to this notice

If we change this policy in a way that materially affects you, we will update the date above and show a notice on the site.
