About the Jain Digambar Panchang

What each day shows. The tithi in its paksha — Sud (शुक्ल, bright half) or Vad (कृष्ण, dark half) — the weekday, the nakshatra at sunrise, a 卐 for traditionally auspicious days, and every kalyanak, parva and vrat the panchang prints for that date, including Amrutsiddhi yoga and Panchak timings.

Digambar parvas. Dashlakshan (three times a year, the main one in Bhadrapad), Ashtahnika (Kartik, Falgun, Ashadh), Solahkaran, Shrut Panchami, Rohini vrat, Veer Shasan Jayanti, Mukut Saptami, Akshay Tritiya and Varshayog sthapana are all marked on their dates.

Source. Transcribed day by day from a printed digambar panchang and checked date by date. Local sanghs may follow a different panchang for some tithis — when in doubt, follow your guru or sangh.

FAQ

What is the Jain Digambar Panchang?

It is the lunar calendar followed by the Digambar Jain community: each day's tithi (sud or vad), weekday and nakshatra, with the Tirthankara kalyanaks (garbh, janma, diksha, gyan, moksha) and Digambar parvas such as Dashlakshan, Ashtahnika, Solahkaran, Shrut Panchami and Rohini vrat.

When is Dashlakshan Parva in 2027?

In this Digambar panchang, Dashlakshan Mahaparva begins on Bhadrapad Sud 5 (Sunday, 5 September 2027) and ends on Anant Chaturdashi, Bhadrapad Sud 14 (Tuesday, 14 September 2027). Magh and Chaitra also have a Dashlakshan, listed on those month pages.

How is the Digambar panchang different from the Shwetambar one?

Both use Vikram Samvat months and sud/vad tithis, but some kalyanak dates and the parvas observed differ — for example Digambars observe Dashlakshan after Paryushan, Ashtahnika three times a year, and Shrut Panchami. Tithi kshay and vriddhi can also differ between the two printed panchangs. This site keeps them as two separate calendars.

What do kshay and vriddhi mean beside a tithi?

Kshay (क्षय) means a tithi begins and ends between two sunrises, so it has no day of its own — the book prints it as, for example, "३/४ क्षय". Vriddhi (वृद्धि) means a tithi is present at two sunrises, so it covers two days.

Which city are the sunrise and sunset times for?

The month headers show sunrise and sunset as printed in the panchang (Mumbai). Each day page also calculates sunrise, sunset, Navkarsi and Chauvihar for the city you choose.
