Jain food abroad: which ingredients do you check on labels?

Vegan is not the same as Jain: a vegan snack can still contain onion, garlic or potato, and a "vegetarian" cheese can use animal rennet.

Jains in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia and the Gulf: which ingredients and E-numbers do you check before buying (whey, rennet, gelatine, carmine E120, shellac E904)? Which shops or brands make it easy?
