Life & History
Jain tradition holds that Sambhavanatha was born into the Ikshvaku dynasty to King Jitari and Queen Susena in the city of Shravasti.
Little detailed narrative survives about his life beyond the traditional account of his birth, renunciation of worldly life, and attainment of kevala jnana (omniscient knowledge) followed by liberation. He is identified in Jain iconography by his emblem, the horse.
As with most Tirthankaras after the first, his significance lies chiefly in his role as a 'ford-maker' who reaffirmed the eternal Jain path for the beings of his era, rather than in an extensively documented biography.
Teaching & Significance
Sambhavanatha, like all Tirthankaras, taught the path of ahimsa and right conduct that leads the soul out of the cycle of birth and death.
