Life & History
Shreyanshanatha is traditionally said to have been born at Simhapuri, a city associated by tradition with the region near present-day Sarnath, to King Vishnu and Queen Vishna.
As with the other Tirthankaras of this distant age, biographical detail beyond birth, renunciation, and attainment of omniscience is limited, and his story is preserved through Jain religious literature rather than independent historical record.
His identifying emblem is the rhinoceros, commonly depicted on the pedestals of his temple images.
Teaching & Significance
Shreyanshanatha's teaching, shared with all Tirthankaras, emphasizes ahimsa, right conduct, and the liberation of the soul from the cycle of birth and death.
