Life & History
Shitalanatha, whose name evokes coolness and peace, is held by tradition to have been born at Bhaddilpur to King Dridharatha and Queen Sunanda.
Beyond his birth and royal lineage, detailed historical narrative is limited; his life is known chiefly through Jain scriptural and devotional tradition common to the Tirthankaras of this era.
He is remembered as part of the succession of Tirthankaras who attained omniscience and guided beings of their age toward liberation.
Teaching & Significance
Shitalanatha's teaching reflects the shared Jain doctrine taught by every Tirthankara: non-violence, truthful and restrained conduct, and freedom of the soul from karmic bondage.
