Life & History
Tradition holds that Aranatha was born to King Sudarshana and Queen Mitradevi (Devi) of the Ikshvaku dynasty at Hastinapur.
As with Shantinatha and Kunthunatha before him, Aranatha is described in Jain tradition as having ruled as a Chakravarti, a universal emperor, prior to renouncing worldly power to pursue asceticism and attain omniscience as a Tirthankara.
Teaching & Significance
Aranatha's teaching, in keeping with all Tirthankaras, centers on ahimsa, right conduct, and the path to liberation from the cycle of rebirth.
