Life & History
Jain tradition holds that Kunthunatha was born to King Sura (Surya) and Queen Shridevi of the Ikshvaku dynasty at Hastinapur.
Like Shantinatha and Aranatha, he is traditionally regarded as having ruled as a Chakravarti, a universal monarch, before renouncing his empire to take up ascetic life and attain enlightenment as a Tirthankara.
His emblem is the goat, by which his images are identified. Beyond these traditional details, detailed biography is not historically verifiable, and his significance rests chiefly on his place in the lineage of Tirthankaras of this age.
Teaching & Significance
Kunthunatha, like all Tirthankaras, is held to have taught the eternal Jain path of ahimsa, right conduct, and liberation from the cycle of rebirth.
